This could happen to anyone moving into a relatively newly constructed condo or apartment. Someone thought a huge frameless mirror, mounted crookedly, on an angle, in a corner above the smallest fireplace surround in the world... would be a good idea. Unfortunately for my client, she is renting and can't rip the yucky out! So... we fixed it in a totally temporary way. The mantle to your right is simply "stuck on" to the wall. The wood face is covering the lower part of the mirror and the framed mirror "sitting" on the mantle is the top half of the existing mirror. It now looks like two pieces and is proportioned properly. |

Below is a problem.. only if you're a chef, which my client is and she RENTS!! She needs room to put all her pots and pans, but can't make too many holes in her walls. She needed a potrack, but unfortunately the ceiling in her kitchen is two stories high with a skylight at the top, so do you really want to hang something in the way of all that light??? NO! So.. a wall hung, artish if you will, solution was the only way to go. It's not like her pans are ugly, they're beautiful. I used one piece of plywood, routed to mimic barnboard, stained it dark and hung all kinds of hooks for the pots. It's held in place with 9 screws. I took a ceiling fixture from Ikea and hung it on the wall instead and "BAM"... add a shelf for some cookbooks and we're done. |

When
you move into
a house with existing paint colors, you don't always have to repaint from
scratch... glaze the walls on top of the existing "dead" color
and warm it up. I like painting ceilings too... the ceiling color is the
base for the glaze color which ties it all together. Add some fabulous
drapes and you done. |

You can totally change a space with color. This before and after of a faux fireplace, the usual focal point of a room is really dramatic. Black suede paint, with aluminium paint accents and new sconces change the whole look. Don't be afraid of BLACK!!! |
