The Bonaduce House - as seen on "Breaking Bonaduce" the reality show on VH1

Danny & Gretchen have been clients since their last house, on Vermont, near "The Greek".
They sold it last year and moved into a fabulous 20's era spanish style house in Los Feliz, California.
It's a beautiful 7000-ish square foot home on a hill. It has a huge basement which Gretchen had framed out and
dry walled so it could be usable space.

This is the powder room off the Bonaduce's media room. The theme is 20's Art Deco.
I found this poster from a 1922 Theatre Magazine cover, had it blown up
and used it for inspiration to create
"
Psychedelic Deco" which is a term I coined, just for this!. A black toilet and sink add to the semi-monochromatic look.
The design wraps onto 3 of the four walls. The ceiling and the fourth wall are plain.

The Media Room!

As you can see from the "before's", is was plain white and boring. Is it boring now??? Not so much!!

Draped from floor to ceiling in red velvet with matching swags (trimmed in champagne braid), this is the place to be.
Charcoal grey carpet and matching metallic ceiling paint and it's the best room in the house.
Nine foot 5" ceilings are not normal for a basement, so this room feels nothing like it.
It's large and cozy, perfect for a movie or a little karaoke.

Dr. Gadget made the room a palace with all sorts of goodies from the seats you see to all the audio/visual equipment a person could want.

Before

Before

Ahhhh, what do you do with a 17.5' round room with 4 big holes in it?? Call me!!

First it was painted. The ceiling matches the Media room which is right next to it and then a simple silvery drag wash on the walls.
Then... get 4 vintage movie posters from the 20's, blow them up to the size of the "holes" frame them like doors and hang them up!!
Great storage for the Media room DVD's and CD's (there's no storage in there) and they look really cool. The scale is perfect.
Swag the ceiling in a teal velvet to match the vibes of the rooms and it's done.

Round Room Before

I used thin plastic molding to finish off the swags and tie it all together. Plastic molding bends really well. Wood would have split with the curve.

It is painted the same color as the ceiling, but because it is metallic it refracts the light differently and seems like a lighter color.

Gretchen's bedroom is a sanctuary, not that the kids
aren't in there all the time, but it needs to be a calming and relaxing place.

The blue was chosen to match the closet doors which came that color,
the suede was my idea. It gives a really nice faux effect that's not too over the top.

Gretchen's dressing area.

Originally this room had a ton of different textures on the walls.
I blended them all together with "skip trowel" plaster, but before the plaster went down,
I put a faux "inlay" (see below) in a darker blue. Then I glazed over all of it in a medium blue glaze made from the
paint used on the vanity.

I'd love to have this bathroom!
Beautiful tub, separate beautifully tiled shower... (I had nothing to do with that, so no pics for you!) and a ton of space!

The Tub surround is a 3 color stippled faux to blend the floor tiles together (the same faux is in the "water closet")
I designed a custom stencil from a photograph I took of the beautiful "Moroccan" hanging fixtures and stenciled over all the arches in the room (3) to give the whole room Moroccan feel, which Gretchen loves.
